March 11-15, 2019 (TDSB and TCDSB)

March Break at Art Works Art School offers an array of new and exciting programs for children ages 4 to 13 years old. Using a wide variety of materials and techniques, students will explore drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and more. All camps round out the week with an art exhibit at 11:50 am for morning camps and 3:20 pm for afternoon camps. Half and full day programs are available for all ages.

People, Places & Transportation
4-6 years (AM)

In this engaging and informative camp, young students learn about the unique forms of transportation used all around the world. From ground and foot to sky high spaceships, construct your own Chinese rickshaw or take off from Cape Canaveral USA in a futurist space ship. Design trains that take you through European cities and countryside, as you map your way. Journey down a long, leisurely river in a traditional African fishing boat as you explore the Nile. This is a mixed media camp with both 2D and 3D projects that include drawing, painting in pastels, watercolour and acrylic, sculpture in clay, plasticine and more.

The Ancient Art of Communications
7-11 years (AM)

Long before the computer and smartphone were invented, stars and planets recorded time, pigeons spread the news, cave paintings documented events, petroglyphs and scrolls communicated language. Learn about the newly discovered ancient Greek Antikythera mechanism, said to be the very first computer created thousands of years ago! This fascinating camp includes mixed media projects on paper, works in clay, plaster, pen and ink, pencil, conte, charcoal and paint. Design and create a variety of your very own unique antique artifacts as you learn about the evolution of ancient to modern technology!

Intro to Portfolio Prep Part 1 - Draw & Paint
10-13 yrs (AM)

This camp is a nice introduction to teen portfolio preparation for creative young students considering future application to a regional arts high school program. A combination of traditional and experimental materials and techniques will encourage students to create challenging and engaging projects. This course covers various forms of drawing, painting and mixed media with an emphasis on observation, concept building, and personal expression.

Ancient Myths & Magical Creatures
4-6 years (PM)

In all cultures around the wold, creatures great and small have been revered, feared, loved, worshiped, mythologized, and eternalized for centuries. Learn about these graceful and gorgeous magical creatures as you fashion your very own shining jewel-coloured Egyptian scarab beetle brooch, paint a delicate and detailed watercolour of a majestic Persian bird, make your own mummy cat with fabric and clay. Finally, design your own decorative Chinese plate with images of sacred tigers and fish. You will bring home a menagerie of magnificent treasures for all to admire!

Future Design and Build
7-11 years (PM)

Design and build your very own futuristic city! Learn how modern 20th century architecture and design shaped our world. Make prints and posters based on concepts by the “Ideas Man”, architect Walter Gropius and his Bauhaus movement. Create futuristic projects that revolutionize architectural design, home design and industrial design including vehicles of the future. Construct free standing sculpture, draw and paint bold and colourful graphic arts posters, prints, detailed drawings and renderings in watercolour wash and ink.

Intro to Portfolio Prep Part 2 – Draw & Sculpt
10-13 yrs (PM)

The second part of the Portfolio Prep camp transitions students from 2D to 3D sculpture with preparatory drawing concepts. Using a variety of drawing and sculpture mediums including pencil, charcoal, conte, pastels, paint, clay, wire, fabric, plaster, students first draw and then sculpt personalized, expressive and experimental pieces of work that are a great addition to any portfolio.

FAMILY SUNDAY: - Mixed Media Collage - March 3, 2019

Unleash your inner creativity through the art of collage. Experiment with paint, pastels, paper, ink and many more mediums to create your very own mixed media masterpiece! Choose your own subject matter.

Time: 2 to 4pm
