March Break 2018 at Art Works Art School offers an array of new and exciting programs for children ages 4 to 13 years old. Using a wide variety of materials and techniques, students will explore drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and more. All camps round out the week with an art exhibit at 11:50 am for morning camps and 3:20 pm for afternoon camps. Half and full day programs are available for all ages.

*Art Works Art School is pleased to offer one additional week of creative programming to accommodate Independent schools and families interested in making more art this March Break. The program is a mixed media art camp for children 4 to 8 years.

PAWS AND PEOPLE!
4-6 years (AM)

Through drawing, painting, sculpture, fabrics and mixed media, children explore the creative world of animal characters. Make your own furry friends out of clay, pen and ink, acrylic paint, watercolour and pastels. Give them their own unique and distinct personalities based on family, friends and people in your community. Colourful critters will patrol your neighbourhood and guide your imagination in this fun spring camp for the animal lover in all of us!

ILLUSTRATION AND ILLUSION IN 2D AND 3D
7-11 years (AM)

Travel in time through the fascinating world of reality and illusion. Start in the 15th century with the Renaissance portraits of Giuseppe Arcimboldo, then design and draw a modern maze based on the work of M. C. Escher, paint surrealist landscapes and clocks like Salvador Dali or optical illusions based on the work of pop artist Bridget Riley. Round out the week with a monster sculpture based on the cinematic master work of Guillermo de Toro! Learn illustrative techniques in pencil, markers, watercolour washes, pen and ink. Develop fine painting skills in acrylic and combine them with mixed media and collage. Sculpt with clay, plasticine and wire.

DRAWING AND PAINTING TECHNIQUES
8-12 years (AM)

This youth studio camp is a skill building opportunity that introduces students to both classic and contemporary art techniques in drawing and painting. The work of traditional and modern masters is explored throughout the week referencing various artists and movements based on realism, impression, expressionism, and abstraction. Students work from observation and the imagination exploring a variety of pencil and paint applications that include working with oil and chalk pastels, watercolour and ink washes to build a thick impasto surface with acrylic paint.

SPRING STUDIO MIX, EXPRESS YOURSELF!
4-6 years (PM)

This hands-on camp introduces the budding little artist to a rich and varied mixed media approach to art-making. Students develop ideas through simple techniques and applications of various materials to create expressive and richly coloured landscapes, portraits, and sculptures in pencil, pastel, paint, clay and printmaking.

CARTOONING, ANIME AND MANGA
7-11 years (PM)

Have a blast illustrating characters with emotion and expression, using various illustration techniques. Explore the history of classical cartooning, animation and Manga! Create your own stories and characters with multi-media projects.

SCULPTURE AND MIXED MEDIA TECHNIQUES
8-12 years (PM)

Using clay, wire, plasticine, fabric, masking tape, plaster and paint, students create figurative and free-form sculptures. Make a scale model of a person or pet. Get inspired by the work of Michelangelo, Degas, Brancusi, Picasso and O’Keeffe!

FAMILY SUNDAY: - Customized T-Shirts - March 11, 2018

Bring in your plain t-shirts and jazz them up with a customized screen-printed design. Turn your old clothes into a bold fashion statement!

INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS: Mix it Up Art Camp! - March 19-23 2018
4-8 years (AM & PM)

Formal but fun studio exercises introduce students to techniques in drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking in this mixed media art camp. Both time-honoured and experimental techniques in pencil, charcoal, conte, pastel, pen and ink, acrylic paint, and printmaking will be taught through several stepby- step projects. Children explore different subject matter throughout the week. See regular schedule inside; half day and full day programs are available and full day students will have new projects in the morning and afternoon.
